The Lighting of Breckenridge

Saturday December 1st is The Lighting of Breckenridge, which marks the beginning of the holiday season in our historic ski town! The Town lights up with colorful decorations as holiday cheer fills the streets.

The Lighting of Breckenridge is only one of the great events this weekend so we suggest coming up Friday evening and skiing for a few hours at the Breckenridge Ski Resort before all the fun starts at 4pm on Saturday.

Join tourists and locals alike on Main Street prior to The Lighting of Breckenridge as local businesses and friends compete in the friendly Santa race to benefit Adopt an Angel. Anyone can enter for a mere $10. All you need is a Santa suit, which can be purchased for $30 if you don’t already have one. If you missed the race last year, you do not want to miss it again this year…it’s great entertainment for a great cause.

When the race wraps up, make your way to 316 N Main Street where free hot chocolate and cookies will be served outside the Red, White and Blue Firehouse. As you sip your cocoa and listen to the carolers be sure to keep an eye out for Santa who will arrive in a horse drawn carriage.

At 4:45 Santa will lead everyone down Main Street in a cheerful parade that ends at the Blue River Plaza in the center of downtown. The Lighting of Breckenridge begins when Santa lights the Tree of Breckenridge to the cheering of the crowd, signaling to everyone that the holiday season has arrived!

After The Lighting of Breckenridge gather the troops and head to the Barney Ford Museum where Santa will meet with the young kids to hear their Christmas wishes. This will also be a great opportunity for photos, so don’t forget your camera!

With the exhaustion that will no doubt settle in at the end of the fun filled day, going to your private Breckenridge vacation rental for the weekend will be the perfect way to end the festivities! Call Book Breck now and reserve your Breckenridge vacation home for this weekend and receive 10% off when you mention The Lighting of Breckenridge.
