December in Breckenridge

As December approaches the snow is falling, the air is crisp and town is filled with winter enthusiasts. For the holidays, Breckenridge transforms into a sparkling winter wonderland, reminiscent of the mystical North Pole!

If you have never made it to the high country for the holidays it’s about time you do. We still have a few homes available for Christmas and New Years and we would love to help you celebrate. There is nothing better than waking up early Christmas morning or New Year’s Day to fresh powder turns before the holiday festivities begin.

If you prefer to spend the holidays at home then com’on up in early December because the festivities begin the first weekend and continue every weekend throughout the month. After all, we don’t want you to miss out on all the Breckenridge holiday fun!

The winter season kicks off with the Race of the Santa’s and The Lighting of Breckenridge on December 1st, marking the beginning of the transformation of Breckenridge to a mystical wonderland! On the weekend of the 7th, teams of locals come together during the Breck Snowflake Challenge to honor the snow god Ullr in hopes that we will be blessed with a great snow year. The impressively detailed sculptures decorate Main Street for a few days and serve as a great predecessor to the International Snow Sculptures that adorn Breckenridge in January.

The following weekend is the 5th annual Dew Tour where Breckenridge’s Terrain Park will be filled with the best of the best freeride skiers and snowboarders. Big names such as Shaun White and Simon Dumont impress the crowds as admittance is free and open to everyone.

Start your winter off on a high note and end the year with another great memory! No matter what December weekend you decide to join us, something fun is guaranteed to be happening in Breckenridge!
