For our guests flying into Denver International Airport and renting a vehicle for the 2-hour trek to the High Country of Breckenridge via I-70, we’ve got a bit more information that will save you time, money, and quite possibly a few headaches so that every phase of your Breckenridge vacation is big fun and minimal stress.
In case you missed our email regarding the Colorado Chain Law, please read now. Winter snow storms are a common occurrence in our part of the country and the Chain Law can be activated at any time during a storm. The snow is beautiful, but can make driving very hazardous! To help prevent auto accidents, loss of traction, hefty fines, or blocking a roadway, you must be prepared for the Chain Law.
Before you leave the lot in a rental car, ensure the tires meet the tread requirements and that the vehicle is a 4WD. For non-4WD vehicles, we strongly recommend you stop a pick up a set of chains. Should the weather end up being pleasant during your stay, you can always return the chains on the way back to the airport.
While Summit County has everything you need in the way of goods and services, you are likely to save time and money by making a stop in or just west of Denver before leaving the front range. Here are our two favorite choices:

Applewood Village: For a one-stop shopping experience to pick up chains, groceries, liquor, and any miscellaneous items the family (even the pets) might need, take exit 264 while driving west along I-70 towards the mountains and check out Applewood Village at 3540 Youngfield St in Wheat Ridge, CO.
